I was visiting Berkeley when we purchased our “gold certified” car, and on the way home my car started to shake. I was told to just go ahead and take it to the location nearest me and get it looked at and they would pay for what needs to be done. Modesto Toyota said I needed the car aligned and four new wheels. Rudy paid for my alignment but told me I had to go back to Berkeley for them to decide whether or not I actually need 4 new wheels. He said he would get back to me in two days and took almost 3 weeks. When I spoke to Delilah, she told me that the person Rudy was waiting on is Martin or Jason. I eventually called Jason who told me that the person who makes the decisions is Rudy. It felt like I was going in a full circle, phone call after phone call. Jason also felt he needed to inform me that 1. “Calling around in circles isn’t going to get me anywhere” even though I was being SENT in circles & 2. that the person who owned the car before me is someone that they know, and that he knows that they came in regularly for all of their maintenance and that they “take really good care of their car” so it wasn’t likely to need new wheels. I’m sorry, but the bent wheels, the paint chips and the literal HOLE in the driver side floor (that I found only after removing the “only to be removed by dealership” sticker under the floor mat) SAYS OTHERWISE. By the way, I verbally asked numerous times before purchase if we were able to bring the car back if any issues came up and we were told yes all three times. After purchase, I asked about returning it and Rudy explained to me that I waved the guarantee. I told them I don’t have a copy of that in the contract and would like to see where we signed off on that. I had asked for a copy of our contract and it took almost 3 weeks and after numerous calls, they sent in our contract which does state by California law that we had a two day cancellation option for used vehicles that are under a 40k purchase price. At this point it’s too late, so I took it back to Berkeley so they could determine if I needed new wheels which they agreed that I did. When I arrive to pick up the vehicle, they informed me that they fixed it by “bending the wheels back” instead of putting on new wheels. I gave it some time but started to question the integrity of my wheels which they now won’t agree to replace unless I go back down there so they can check it out first. Which would mean me driving down there AGAIN after they order the wheels and probably AGAIN to pick it up. That’s a three hour drive for me and gas coming out of my pocket for something that shouldn’t have been wrong with my “gold certified vehicle” in the first place. I finally agreed I would just go down there but they haven’t gotten back to me since Nov 26, 2024. This entire experience has been horrible. By the way, every single time I mention this location at my Modesto dealership, they legitimately say “I don’t trust the Berkeley location.” STAY AWAY FROM THIS LOCATION!

This place is clearly operating in their "automotive excellence" phase. The service to my 2017 Camry was quick ,with none of the overcharging so common these days. I'm grateful that a dealership/service center still operates with great service and integrity. My car will be serviced here from now on.

The actual service went off smoothly. However while driving home, an undercarriage panel came loose and began to drag on the road; luckily it happened near home (see attached photo). I called my service attendant about a when would be. good time to bring car back , and after some back and forth and leaving voicemails, I went from planning to drop car off the next day to returning car near end of same day. When I arrived my service attendant kind of greeted me but mainly had another service agent help me. Although I understand that her shift ended , it would’ve been nice for her to just give a word of reassurance; instead she said good bye to the staff and left without acknowledging me or the inconvenience of having to bring car back. In any case the service agent who did help we as great. I did ask for a discount for earlier service or coupon ; he gave me a free car wash coupon. Although I was hoping for a little more , I accepted the car wash coupon and called it a day.
